Your Impact

Reporting to the Director, Programs, the Program Manager is responsible for the day-to-day execution of OCE programs, specifically in supporting OCE’s Market Readiness (MR) Program and other early stage investment and company-led funding programs to help commercialize intellectual property (IP) developed in Ontario. The Program Manager is accountable for developing program guidelines and processes, assessing companies for program eligibility and fit with OCE’s program portfolio, managing program commitments and expenditures, and in evaluating the outcomes of OCE’s investments. The Program Manager will also be involved in preparing companies receiving MR funds to pitch for angel, VC and other investments to further develop their growth into scalable businesses.    

 

Your Contribution

  • Develop program framework, workflow, guidelines and processes with internal and external stakeholders, to operationalize programs and strategic initiatives. Implement program modules on OCE’s Management Information System (MIS), increasing efficiency for external and internal stakeholders.
  • Work collaboratively with funders and strategic partners to ensure that key program criteria and metrics are defined, and that partnership expectations are addressed.
  • Provide internal and external applicant support for programs.
  • Perform preliminary assessments of investment opportunities including market potential, competitive landscape, financial position, and risks and rewards.
  • Advise clients and stakeholders on the commercialization process including identifying potential partners, collaborations and follow-on investment opportunities.
  • Conduct internal reviews of submitted applications for quality and suitability for OCE investment.
  • Organize external evaluations and internal executive review meetings to ensure an open, transparent and timely review process.
  • Oversee program budgets and expenditures, and manage the day-to-day delivery and operations of the programs.
  • Evaluate program delivery and efficiency, including identification of continuous improvement opportunities.
  • Provide program stewardship and conduct investment portfolio analysis, including metrics, outcomes and impacts of OCE investments for internal strategy and external reporting.
  • Work cross-functionally across departments to assemble resources. Collaborate with Application Support, Review and Results, and Project Administration teams to support program operations. Work cooperatively and collaboratively with other OCE staff (Business Development Operations, Finance, Information Systems, Corporate Planning and Development, etc.). Work with the Marketing and Communications team to develop success stories.
  • Track developments and stay up-to-date on current knowledge and the latest developments in the early stage commercialization and investment space. Make Program recommendations to Director, Programs based on other early stage investment programs and market intelligence.
  • Provide input to corporate planning as required.
  • Ensure stakeholder expectations are met and exceeded in terms of quality of product and service delivered.
  • May be required to perform other related duties as assigned, including support of other Programs.
  • Occasional overtime as required with occasional events to attend outside of normal business hours.

 

Your Attributes

  • Formal, specialized post-graduate education, preferably a Master’s degree in Business and/or Information and Communication Technologies, Clean Tech or Advanced Manufacturing is preferred; or a professional designation.
  • Minimum 7 years of related experience in the development and delivery of programs.
  • Familiar with the language and terminology of early stage technology commercialization, start-up principles, product development and investment programs.
  • Strong understanding of investment management principles required to assess start-ups and their market readiness, including familiarity with financial statements.
  • Superior project and time management skills, including planning and executing projects to accomplish goals within constraints such as time, budget and quality standards.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills with a proven ability to deal with confidential information and sensitive partnership issues using diplomacy and discretion.
  • Demonstrated collaborative skills and professionalism to work cross-functionally with internal and external teams.
  • Proficiency with databases and web searches and demonstrated ability to learn new software applications.
  • Highly developed, interpretive and analytical skills in MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Project and Visio.
